Service Description

Delivering NEC4 Option C: Managing the Target Cost Mechanism Option C is the most commercially sophisticated pricing mechanism on major UK infrastructure programmes, yet it remains the most frequently mismanaged. The pain/gain share mechanism, the interplay between Defined Cost and the total of the Prices, and the discipline required to keep the target credible demand a level of contract literacy that goes beyond general NEC familiarity. Delegates will work through the full Option C lifecycle, from how a target is set, through monthly assessment of Defined Cost and the Fee, to managing the Disallowed Cost provisions that so often drive disputes. The course draws on real examples from Tier 1 projects to illustrate how compensation events reshape the pain/gain position, and what Project Managers and Contractor commercial teams must do each month to preserve alignment between cost, programme and target.
