Auditing Defined Cost under NEC4 Options

Service Description

This course will be delivered by an MRICS and Certified Auditor with extensive NEC experience in the UK and abroad. In target cost and cost reimbursable contracts, the Contractor's entitlement to payment depends on whether claimed costs meet the NEC4 definition of Defined Cost. Yet audits are frequently superficial checks leaving clients exposed to millions of pounds of leakage over the life of a programme. The course covers the Schedule of Cost Components and the Short Schedule in detail, the treatment of people, Equipment, Plant and Materials, charges, design and insurance, and the specific tests for Disallowed Cost under clause 11.2(26). Delegates will learn how to structure an audit, what evidence to demand, substantiation and justification of costs, the journey of costs from requisition to invoice, how to identify common patterns of over-recovery, and how to frame findings in a way that is contractually defensible rather than merely assertive.
