On this week’s careers in construction, meet Seye, an MEP Site Manager. MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) SiteManager is responsible for coordinating and managing all necessary MEP resources throughout the entire project on site, from start-up through closeout, ensuring that expectations, budgetary, health and safety guidelines are met or exceeded.
1. Why did you choose your career path?
I have long been interested in pursuing an engineering or technically based career; from my early teens, I knew that I wanted to be involved in the creation of products rather than services. Working as an MEP Site Manager exposes me to different technologies and engineering methods whilst also providing me with tangible results to my work.
2. What did you study in school/university?
I studied engineering throughout school at both GCSE and A-Level, prior to studying a Mechanical Engineering degree with an industrial placement at university.
3. What certifications are associated with your career?
There is a route to chartership with a couple of institutions including the CharteredInstitute of Building (CIOB) and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).
4. What advice do you have for someone looking to purse this career path?
Construction is much about managing people and sequencing work streams, my advise would be to target these skills as areas of development early on by seeking out work experience.
