Meet Nirali Patel, a Project Manager for and on behalf of Gleeds Advisory.
1. Why did you choose this career path?
I chose this career path as it involves practical work. It gives me immense satisfaction and achievement looking at the progress of the project. There is a sense of achievement that I can contribute to society by working on projects such as hospitals. There is a new challenge every day and when you have resolved an issue it is an achievement. I learn every day about human behaviour, and the technicality that is involved in each project, every project is unique – resulting in new challenges, a creative way of working, etc. This career path helps me to knowledge share with the new generation, inspire young girls to join the industry, etc.
2. What did you study in school/university?
I initially studied HR and Statistics, then did law conversion and LPC. Finally, when I moved to the construction industry, I undertook MSc in Construction Project Management.
3. What certifications are associated with your career?
The certification associated with my career is APM, RICs, CIOB, etc. I am working towards achieving chartership in APM.
4. What advice do you have for someone looking to pursue this career path?
Anyone at any age from any background can join the construction industry and opt for the career path at any time. The transferrable skills from other industries help to make this industry better. This career path is challenging but highly rewarding.
