Meet Lorraina Littlewood, a Purchasing Officer at Kier Group.
1. Why did you choose this career path?
I happily fell into my career path 15 years ago, it was not something that I was expecting to stay with, but after seeing what I liked and progression, I am still here enjoying every aspect. I am lucky that every day is different and that is what I thrive on.
2. What did you study in school/university?
I went to college and studied Health and Social care with the view of becoming a counsellor. Being a person who has no formal higher academic qualifications, but years of professional experience, it has become my mission to help businesses break away from the norm and encourage non-academics into leadership roles.
3. What certifications are associated with your career?
The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply. The programme consists of 1,200 learning hours (equivalent to 120 Masters' level credits), and requires a high level of personal investment, commitment and drive to succeed.
4. What do you love most about your job?
I always joke that I get to buy something every day, but what I really enjoy is knowing that whatever materials I am procuring, are making someone else’s job easier and helping them to achieve their goals and targets.
5. What do you dislike about your job?
Auditing/processes and procedures are something that I am working on.
6. What advice do you have for someone looking to pursue this career path?
Talk to everyone. People will share their knowledge with you if you ask and I believe this is how you learn. Share your viewpoint and always be willing to challenge 😊
