Meet Ngaatendwe Matipino, a Quantity Surveyor at Costain Group Plc.
1. Why did you choose this career path?
I attended a Careers Day in secondary school where I met a lady who was pursuing a career as a Quantity Surveyor. From the conversation I had with her about the career and what it entails I made the decision to study Quantity Surveying at university. She also encouraged me to consider a career in construction since there aren’t a lot of women in the industry. My sister is a qualified Architect, so she is also a reason why I chose a career in this industry
2. What did you study in school/university?
I studied Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management at Coventry University
3. What certifications are associated with your career?
You can be chartered with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors as a Quantity Surveyor
4. What advice do you have for someone looking to pursue this career path?
If studying full-time at university doesn’t appeal to you, there are other options like a degree apprenticeship which enables you to work and earn as a trainee quantity surveyor whilst studying a surveying degree on a part-time basis
