Women doing it!

Updated: Mar 9, 2021

On this weeks’ careers in construction meet Ruth, a Mechanical & Energy Engineer. Energy systems engineers oversee complex energy conversion and distribution systems, work to improve energy storage systems, and manage the efficient use of energy in building.

1. Why did you choose this career path?

I grew up in Cameroon, a country with many resources and energy solutions. Despite having and abundance of resources, there isn’t much diversity in the energy produced over in Cameroon, it’s mainly oil and gas.

This lack of diversity made me quite curious of energy systems, subsequently leading me into the pursuit of my career in engineering and energy.

I fell in love with building services and design during an internship and here I am fully immersed in the construction industry and loving it.

2. What did you study in school/university?

I studied Sustainable Design and Energy efficiency at ESTP Paris.

3. What certifications are associated with your career?

I am a STEM ambassador and a CISBE YEN Board Member. You can become a Chartered Engineer through CISBE or any similar organisation (IET, IMechE etc...)

4. What advice do you have for someone looking to pursue this career path?

Be passionate! There is so much you can do and how much you can influence the industry with your personality, involvement, creativity and initiative.
