BDP is a major international, interdisciplinary practice of architects, designers, engineers, and urbanists. We work closely with users, clients, and the community to create special places for living, working, shopping, culture, and learning across the world. By combining expertise across disciplines, locations, sectors, and all major building types, BDP are able to deliver a truly integrated way of working — resulting in high-quality, effective, and inspiring built spaces.
BDP is actively fostering an inclusive organisation where people can be themselves and everyone has a sense of belonging. We want our teams to be diverse at every level, reflecting the communities we design for. As designers, we create spaces that promote equity, wellbeing, and participation for all within the built environment. We actively encourage people from a variety of backgrounds with different skills, and professional and life experiences, to join us and help us to achieve our aspirations. We also welcome applications from candidates who wish to work flexibly.
We recently became a BPIC partner as we recognise the need to improve our representation of black and ethnic minority employees at all levels of the business. We are keen to take an approach that fosters as much support to help us in achieving this, gathering a range of expertise, opinions, and thoughts.

Firstly, our employee-led EDI network, BDP Belonging is a great steering group as well as a place to gather burning issues at the studio level. Our priority project groups include race and black representation, gender equity, social mobility, recruitment, family friendliness, inclusive design, and external profile. These are great sounding boards for discussion and help us deliver action plans that drive positive change. The groups are made up of a mixture of people from a mixture of studios and professions including Principals and Senior Directors to ensure we have leadership accountability. We are also gathering expert advice from several sources to help us to create a more inclusive environment, and our more recent partnership with BPIC will offer us the opportunity to get further support on diversifying our workforce.

“BDP is committed to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and we are proud to partner with brilliant organisations like BPIC to support us on our journey. We are excited to work with BPIC to gain valuable knowledge, and welcome diverse talent to BDP to keep EDI at the top of our agenda.” -Sue Emms, Principal, and North Chair
