Site Engineer (Earthworks /Drainage)
The Engineer is an integral member of the Site Operations Team, the Team being responsible for the effective and efficient running of the site throughout the delivery of the project.

Required Qualifications
MEng/BEng/Foundation Degree/BTEC/ Degree in Civil Engineering.
Minimum of 1 years of varied site experience in Civil Engineering.

Key Accountabilities:
- Provide for Accurate Setting Out and Control
- Establish accurate and clear setting out on the ground that site operatives can work to.
- Communicate clearly to the operatives what the setting out is and how it should be used.
- Set out in advance so that time is available to carry out any secondary checks.
- Maintain the long term setting out and project stations.
- Instrument Calibration and Testing
- Get involved in the planning and monitoring of your section of works.
- Get involved in the planning of your particular section so that you are aware when setting out control is required.
- Keep accurate records of as built dates in diaries and on construction drawings.
- Keep accurate records of events which are affecting the project plan or disrupting the work.
- Communicate on a timely basis any such event to your Sub Agent and a member of the Quantity Surveying staff.

- Be aware of HSEQ responsibilities.
- Observe relevant statutory provisions. Implement the company’s procedures for dealing with sub-contractors.
- Provide input to risk assessments and method statements.
- Ensure activity and/or substance-specific assessments under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations are made and communicated to those at risk.
- Ensure employees are aware of the company’s policy for health & safety at work and that they have understood its requirements.
- Report all accidents and incidents to the appointed health & safety manager/site agent and project manager.
- Be responsible to your line manager for the correct application of the quality management system, where it affects your daily activities, including Inspection and Test Plans, material records

Supervision
- Supervise and train chainman/student engineer

- Supervise earthworks sampling/testing to the specification (including on site testing). Responsible for the correct storage of samples and arrange for timely collection by the laboratory. Collate test results and identify any non-conformances as early as possible.
- Carry out basic earthworks testing in addition to the specification.
- Supervision of compaction operations recording dates, material type, source, layer thickness, compaction equipment, number of passes etc.
- Identify additional works and maintain records
- Obtain approval for structural and road formation and sub-formation
- Agree and record pavement dips for subbase, base, binder and surface layers (Dip sheet)
- Maintain a drawing register of construction issue drawings (Drawing Register Schedule and Register Transmittals)
- Distribute drawings through the document transmittal system (Document Transmittal and Document Transmittal Register)
- Raise requests for information (RFI’s) and register
- Maintain a schedule of information required
- Raise confirmation of verbal instructions (CVI’s) and register
- Ensure that information on RFI’s and CVI’s is distributed and taken into account if drawings are not revised.
- Maintain as-built drawings including any changes through RFI’s and CVI’s.
- Produce site sketches by hand, AutoCAD or other drafting software

- Section Engineer should manage the sketch file and ensure they are distributed to the correct people.

- Supervise and/or carry out concrete testing cubes, slump, air tests etc. Responsible for the correct storage of cubes and arrange for timely collection of cubes by the laboratory. Collate test results and identify any non-conformances as early as possible (Concrete Cube Register)
- Maintain records of trial earthworks areas including dates, material type, source, layer thickness, compaction equipment, number of passes etc.

Required Qualifications
MEng/BEng/Foundation Degree/BTEC/ Degree in Civil Engineering.
