We have an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineering Apprentice to join the team. As an apprentice, you will be on a development programme, which is designed to kick start your successful career in Engineering. We will support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and twenty percent of your time will be spent on a study programme which will consist of regular classroom or online study with an apprenticeship training provider.
The Civil Engineer – TBM shall work alongside the tunnelling team on the project, gaining an indepth understanding of the supply, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the Tunnel Boring Machines including the final dismantling operations once the tunnelling works have been completed.
Gain an indepth understanding of Civil Engineering within Tunneling on a large-scale tunneling project.
Support with monitor the performance of the works in the TBM and, working with the TBM Engineer in regards to coordinating the TBM labour crews.
Assist with assembly of the TBM and its related facilities in the tunnel.
Support the TBM excavation and ensure the proper maintenance of the TBM, its equipment and related facilities.
Support the operation of the tunnel related facilities which support the TBM excavation typically: rolling stock, pumping systems, conveyor belts, ventilation fans, ducting and piping.
Providing support for the procurement and supply of the equipment, materials and consumables needed to support the production.
Take reasonable care for the safety of themselves and of any other person who may be affected by what they do or fail to do at work
Co-operate with their employers or any other persons in the performance of their statutory duties
Applicants must have achieved 5 GCSEs A-C (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above) including Maths and English, or equivalent.
A strong interest in pursuing a career in Civil Engineering, specifically tunnelling, within the construction and infrastructure industry.
Professional, proactive and receptive to constructive advice and guidance.
Able to take responsibility and take pride in the work delivered.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Able to think outside the box and communicate these thoughts effectively.
Computer literate – able to use the main computer software packages.
Able to take a responsible approach and always promote health and safety.
